Nylon 6 (PA6) is a thermoplastic resin made by the polymerization of caprolactam, also known as polyamide 6 or nylon 6. Its molecular structure contains repeated amide groups (-CONH-), which makes PA6 have a high melting point (generally between 215-225℃) and excellent mechanical properties.
Chemical composition and physical properties
The chemical formula of nylon 6 is (C₆HNO)ₙ, the melting point is 220℃, and the density is between 1.13~1.15 g/cm³. It has high tensile strength, impact strength and wear resistance, low friction coefficient, and is suitable for making bearings, gear transmission parts, etc. Nylon 6 can maintain excellent mechanical properties and dimensional stability in a humid environment because its molecular chain contains highly polar amide groups, which easily form hydrogen bonds with water molecules.
Application:
Nylon 6 is widely used in automotive parts, electronic and electrical parts, engineering plastics and fibers due to its excellent mechanical properties, wear resistance and chemical resistance. It also has good electrical properties and heat resistance, and is suitable for industrial parts in high temperature and high load working environments, such as bearings, gears, pump housings, etc. In addition, nylon 6 is also used to make structural parts of daily necessities, sports equipment, etc.
